Experience Local Life
The settlement of Nungwi is located in the northern section of Zanzibar Island. This tour focuses on a cultural visit to the village, sight-seeing, and time to unwind on the north's famous white sand beaches.
The ideal time to visit is early morning when the fish market is in full action. Depending on the catch, you may see tuna, kingfish, and dorado for sale. You'll witness local men and women auctioning their harvest of squid, octopus, and puffer fish caught at the reef's edge.
A highlight of the journey is the Nungwi Boat Yard. Here, you'll meet shipyard owners and discover how massive traditional Dhows are constructed by hand—from the specific wood used for the joints to the spectacular way they are launched into the ocean.
